I’m too young for this

Look, I get it. I really do. I’m from the South. I’ve lived here my whole life. I get the whole manners thing. But I’m far, far too young to be called “ma’am.” I’m 25 years old, for fork’s sake. Don’t call me “ma’am” if you are older than I am. Don’t call me “ma’am” if your kids are older than I am. In fact, don’t call me “ma’am” ever.

This doesn’t mean I want guys to stop opening doors for me. That’s still acceptable. Just don’t say, “You’re welcome, ma’am,” after I thank you.

I get that all the time. It drives me nuts! At football games, at work (my underlings), it drives me NUTS! I’m NEVER going to want to be called ma’am. Never. Not even when I’m 80. I’m just not a ma’am.

I feel the exact same way!! I’m 28, people tell me I look a lot younger than that, but I get called maam all the time, and especially by people who are clearly old enough to be my grandparents.

I’m like, are you serious? You are 20 years older than me and you are calling me maam?

    ugh.
